Eskoria Humana – Irresponsable (2017)

Three years after releasing their debut album Transgresores del Sistema, the Rancagua-based band Eskoria Humana breaks in with their second Long-Play album, entitled Irresponsable.

The maturing process is crystal clear: the punk rock shown on their first album is sharing space with other music genres like melodic hardcore, ska and pop punk, widening the musical landscape without losing a bit of the musical consistency usually claimed by the hardcore fans of this kind of music. The punk music performed by Eskoria Humana mixes socially-compromised music with a chilled, teen-liked attitude.

Technical exhaustiveness is not usual on this type of music, and Eskoria Humana is no exception: their music is straight-forward and energic. Ther lyrics reveal the problems of our society without any ambition of showing off virtuosity of lyrical aspirations. Simple riffs and raw lyrics are the vehicle in which their message travels.

Behind their raw music, however, there is a flawless performance and a good technical and musical production. The premise of “I play punk because I play badly” doesn’t run here.

The guitar and voice of Nico, their lead singer, along with his six-strings partner Pinwino, find a perfect ally in Tito’s bass in the job of powering-up their riffs, through unisons and harmonic counterpoints, giving their songs a special taste. All of them rest on the flawless work of Vixo on drums who, must be stated, is the main responsible of the power and energy of Eskoria Humana.

Irresponsable, as an album, doesn’t have big low spots. Along its twelve tracks (an unusually long album for our times), however, we can find high spots like the ska punk of Jugando a mentir –which, besides, is one of the few songs with guitar solos- and the melodic hardcore of Bésame el ano.

The best of the album, however, can be found on Mi funeral: an unusually deep and reflexive song. Beyond some mistakes on semantics, the way the song is structured and arranged doesn’t do anything but making a deeper sense of fatality and pesimism.

With two albums on their backs, Eskoria Humana has proven to be a band with talen tan discpline on their side. The challenge now is to see how they can make a difference between them and other similar bands, to make a name and a sound of their own. In this time, with so many bands making music, this goal gets harder and harder. But this is a band with the talent (and the balls) to make it.
