Cuando creíamos que el rock alternativo estaba extinto llega a mí poder este nuevo EP de la banda santiaguina Zoológica titulado “La Hierba Roja  (2016),  banda que sin dudas posee un sonido cautivante y único que roza suavemente con el pop, pero que nunca pierde el rumbo a un rock directo, ya que tienen ritmos compositivos realmente interesantes y alucinantes. Lo dicho anteriormente se puede graficar en el track que inaugura el disco, “Alondras” tema que resume en sus 5 minutos las características antes mencionadas, logrando un inicio entretenido y dinámico. Lo que más me gusta de este tema es la variedad sonora que posee, mezcla estilos continuamente y el tema se hace agradable de escuchar sobre todo por el riff de las guitarras.

“Aspidoquelon” continua el viaje original, agregando más protagonismo a la voz de Andreas Schiefelbein y continúa con ese sonido adictivo que la banda logra crear. En este track se suman elementos más garage y post rock, entregando una variada gama de sonidos que funcionan muy bien entre sí.

“Tzara” tercera pieza de este ep, comienza desatando sonidos cercanos al rock progresivo que desembocan en el rock alternativo que Zoológica logró crear durante todo este disco, destacando de forma fluida, directa y con mucho talento. Sin dudas un gran mérito en esta época donde cuesta diferenciar una banda con otra.

“Vendrán lluvias suaves”, cuándo crees que la banda no te podrá sorprender más llega la última pieza de este ep, un tema más pausado pero no menos dinámico. Una joyita para el final, donde la banda nos logra mostrar su faceta más melancólica

En conclusión, podemos asegurar a la comunidad de Sonidos Ocultos que estamos ante una banda de exportación y que no tengo dudas que va a triunfar en la escena musical independiente, ya que tienen lo que se necesita: buenas canciones y un sonido internacional, logrado por el excelente trabajo de grabación y masterización de Pepe Lastarria (All Tomorrows, etc.).

When we believed that the alternative rock scene was done, comes to me to this new EP from “Zoologica”, a Chilean band based in Santiago, entitled “La Hierba Roja” («The Red Grass”, 2016). Their sound has -beyond all doubt- this captive and unique tone, lightly touching pop elements, which never lose the direct impact of rock, thanks to its really interesting and also amazing rhythms. This is can be graphed on the five minutes open track, «Alondras«, achieving a dynamic and fun start. What I liked most of it was its range of sounds, continuously mixing styles, making it a nice track to hear, especially for the guitar riffs.

«Aspidoquelon» continues the original trip, giving more prominence to Andreas Schiefelbein’s voice, keeping this addictive’s band sound. This track adds up more garage and postrock elements, giving a wide range of sounds that works very well together.

«Tzara«, the third part of this EP, starts shooting up sounds pretty close to progressive rock, turning into this distinctive sound that “Zoologica” created throughout the entire album, shining fluidly, forthright and plenty of talent.  Certainly, something hard to say today where it does hard recognize a band of another.

Right after you thought the band couldn’t bring more surprises, the track «Vendrán lluvias suaves» comes at the end of the EP, slower than the others songs but no less dynamic. This track is a gem that close this work where the band exposes us their most gloomy face.

Bottom line, we can assure to all our Sonidos Ocultos community, this is a band to shown beyond our borders. I have no doubt to say those guys will succeed in the underground scene. They have everything that is needed: pretty cool songs and an international sound, achieved by the excellent work that Pepe Lastarria (All Tomorrows, etc.) did recording and mastering this EP.
