Meditator, banda oriunda de Nashville, Tennessee (EE.UU.) se caracteriza por un sonido potente y moderno, un refresco para la cargada escena de metal progresivo de su país natal y el resto del mundo. Una de sus variantes, como el metalcore progresivo, se acerca al sonido y concepto que Meditator trae en su disco Wold Watcher, trabajo que continúa la senda sonora de su álbum debut A Darkness Unknown (2018).

Con los 52 minutos que dura World Watcher se puede vivir la experiencia completa de la propuesta de Meditator, una banda con chispa que es capaz de traspasar toda esta rudeza en la intro “Grieve”. Le sigue “Intentions”, para armar un comienzo arrollador con guitarras furiosas y una voz profunda, gutural a ratos, además de melódicas secuencias y un cúmulo de virtuosismo. “Dust” es uno de los puntos altos de este trabajo, emoción desde los cimientos, pero nunca dejando el metal de lado y estos riffs tan característicos del estilo Djent metal. “Spinkick”, debe ser de los temas más directos de esta placa, la chispa ya está incendiada, mucha fuerza y precisión. “Star Gazer”, el tema que sigue, debe ser de los más populares de la banda, alcanzando las 11 mil reproducciones en Spotify. Ya en la mitad del álbum nos encontramos con ”Fallen” y “To the Surface”; la primera no te deja ráfaga para descansar, un track con altura, potente y mucha personalidad, mientras que la segunda muestra una faceta mucho más agresiva que los temas anteriores. Mantiene elevada la vibración de la brutalidad que el estilo desarrolla, pero rozando levemente con el pop, con un coro pegadizo y expansivo, fórmula que se repite durante todo el trabajo.

La guerra sonora sigue con “Into The Void”, un mantra del rock pesado, sonidos que suenan como el death metal europeo, donde se mezcla el poder y la elegancia en el sonido, manteniendo en alto el nivel de la banda. Continuamos con “In the Dark Waiting for Dawn”, canción que nos entrega rapidez y virtuosismo, intercalándose sin parar, mostrando el lado más cercano al metalcore.

“Choices” es un cúmulo de emociones y rabia contenida, pero como siempre manteniendo a raya los ritmos e introduciendo un poco de pop para que, de alguna manera, la propuesta pueda llegar a personas que no solo escuchan rock pesado.

“Fade”, me recordó un poco a la propuesta que realizan bandas como Linkin Park, en el sentido de tener melodías muy apreciables en los riffs, siempre acompañados por un coro pegajozo y un sonido bastante agradable de escuchar, pero nunca dejando el rock pesado de lado. De hecho, esa es la gracia de la propuesta, la constante mezcla.

El trance llega a su fin con las últimas dos propuestas: “Lament” y “Smoking Gun”. Una manera poderosa de ir cerrando el ciclo; el primer track nos entrega un sonido más experimental y cercano al rock alternativo y la última canción, sin duda es una síntesis de todo este trabajo. Es capaz de mezclar rudeza, pasión, sonidos guturales y un aura moderna.
