Dentro del sonido metropolitano existe esa vertiente rica en características psicodélicas que cultivan bandas como The Holydrug Couple o The Ganjas. Un estilo suave, a ratos con más rapidez, pero generalmente se asocia a los efectos retardantes y reverberantes con los que se presentan las guitarras y las voces, en dónde quizás no importe tanto la definición de una melodía o de una lírica, si no que tan ambiental pueda sentirse. Otros de los que cultivan ese volátil género son Vago Sagrado, banda de la capital nacional que hace muy poco estrenó su más reciente producción Made out of sound, un trabajo de once tracks que supera la hora de reproducción.

Vago sagrado son de esas bandas que, de no ser por su nombre en español, una persona no sabría si lo que escucha es proveniente de algún país anglosajón. No hay elementos musicales que alguien pueda identificar como rock nacional, y no tiene por qué haber estos elementos, a menos que quieran diferenciarse. En cuanto al idioma, también, solo tres de los geniales tracks del disco tienen un texto recitado en español, todo el resto está cantado en un inglés bien pronunciado que sin duda prueba que la banda maneja el idioma.

La primera parte del álbum plasma en rasgos generales la textura sonora que la banda trabajará durante el resto del disco. Spiritual War abre el disco con extensas reverbs de guitarra y un ritmo regular de batería, construyendo así una atractiva atmosfera psicodélica suave. Con As I drift la banda gana un poco más de vértigo y agilidad, manteniendo las guitarras atmosféricas. En ambos temas la letra en inglés suena bastante bien, como es clásico en ese idioma. Caen las sombras y la penumbra con Detectives salvajes, un tema con un potencial gigante gracias a su línea de bajo, los delays de la guitarra y el texto recitado en español, todo un conjunto bien apretado que hacen que Vago Sagrado anote un buen punto alto en el disco.

La siguiente parte del disco trae consigo una caminata sombría de ocho minutos, Slightly Nice: Awkward, dónde cada paso resuena como si fuera el eco del pensamiento en un túnel que no olvida nada y que repite todo. Una canción que muestra una sección de distorsiones saturadas, al igual que la canción siguiente, She left the Room, resaltando el frenesí emocional que siente Vago Sagrado. Made out of sand es una cálida inyección de positivismo que se diferencia del resto del disco gracias a sus acordes mayores y su armonía vocal. Mención aparte se lleva el incansable golpeteo de la baqueta sobre el ride de la batería, aportando mucho brillo a una canción que ya sonaba hermoso, ahora se vuelve otro punto alto de la producción de Vago Sagrado.

Un bólido sonoro entra por los audífonos ante los primeros acordes de Deep into the shadows, un viaje de ritmo rápido y overdrives con ganancia a tope, muy distinto a lo expuesto en Fuck the ashram, dónde Vago Sagrado toma la melancolía ambiental, que al parecer les resulta bastante sencilla de invocar, y compone un acompañamiento perfecto para otro texto recitado que se acelera en la medida que la canción avanza. Algo muy distinto a lo que muestra la ante penúltima canción, Om shivai, que es un esfuerzo instrumental reflexivo, gris y de sensación meditativa gracias al sampler de voces ocupado en el fondo.

Los últimos dos temas del disco tienen un carácter bastante más optimista. Space nascar es un nombre perfecto para una canción instrumental única, una pista sonora de carreras que se abre camino en la mente del oyente como un bálsamo refrescante que genera el tic de dejar la pista en “repetir” y escuchar hasta que llueva en Santiago. Try the wine es el tercer y último tema con texto recitado del disco, una característica que quizás la banda debiese cultivar mucho más ya que, la fuerza de los textos funciona casi por sí sola. Sumado eso a la música de rock incidental, se logra un conjunto que es muy placentero escuchar. Vago Sagrado perfectamente puede estar cultivando un nuevo estilo sin darse cuenta, pueden ser los nuevos catalizadores del rock incidental recitativo.

Inside the metropolitan sound there is that branch rich in psychedelic characteristics that bands like Holy drug couple or The Ganjas cultivate. A style described as «music for stoned bastards» by university students who hopefully reach their twenties and little. A smooth style, at times faster, but generally associated with the retarding and reverberant effects with which the guitars and voices are presented, where perhaps the definition of a melody or a lyric is not so important, but rather as ambient can feel. Others who cultivate this volatile genre are Vago Sagrado, a metropolitan band that very recently premiered its most recent production “Made out of sound”, an eleven-track work that exceeds the hour of reproduction.

Vago Sagrado are one of those bands that, if it weren’t for their name in spanish, a person wouldn’t know if what they’re listening to is from an anglo-Saxon country. There are no musical elements that someone can identify as national rock, and there doesn’t have to be these elements, unless they want to differentiate themselves. As for the language, too, only three of the great tracks on the album have a text recited in spanish, all the rest is sung in well pronounced english that undoubtedly proves that the band knows the language.

The first part of the album outlines in general terms the sound texture that the band will work on during the rest of the album. Spiritual War opens the album with extensive guitar reverbs and a regular drum beat, thus building an attractive soft psychedelic atmosphere. With As I drift the band gains a little more vertigo and agility, keeping the guitars atmospheric. In both themes the lyrics in English sound quite good, as is classic in that language. Shadows and gloom fall with Detectives Salvajes, a song with enormous potential thanks to its bass line, guitar delays and text recited in Spanish, a very tight ensemble that makes Vago Sagrado score a highligth on the album.

The next part of the album brings with it an eight-minute somber walk, Slightly Nice: Awkward, where each step resonates as if it were the echo of thought in a tunnel that forgets nothing and repeats everything. A song that features a section of saturated distortions, much like the following song, She left the Room, highlighting the emotional frenzy that Vago Sagrado feels. Made out of sand is a warm injection of positivism that differs from the rest of the album thanks to its major chords and vocal harmony. Special mention goes to the tireless pounding of the drumstick over the drum ride, adding a lot of shine to a song that already sounded beautiful, now it becomes another high point of Vago Sagrado production.

A sound bolide enters through the headphones before the first chords of Deep into the shadows, a fast rhythm trip and overdrives with maximum gain, very different from what is exposed in Fuck the ashram, where Vago Sagrado takes the ambient melancholy, which apparently they find it easy enough to summon, and it makes a perfect accompaniment to other recited text that speeds up as the song progresses. Something very different from what the ninth song, Om shivai, shows, which is a reflective, gray and meditative-feeling instrumental effort thanks to the voice sampler busy in the background.

The last two songs on the album have a much more optimistic character. Space nascar is a perfect name for a unique instrumental song, a racing soundtrack that works its way into the listener’s mind like a refreshing balm that generates the tic of putting the track on repeat and listening until it rains in Santiago. Try the wine is the third and last track with recited text on the album, a characteristic that perhaps the band should cultivate much more since the strength of the texts works almost by itself. Add that to the incidental rock music, and you get a set that is very pleasant to listen to. Vago Sagrado may perfectly be cultivating a new style without realizing it, they may be the new catalysts for recitative incidental rock.
