El verde sur de Chile es el origen de muchas bandas de un rock ahumado de pesado misticismo. Quizás sea la resonancia de sus montañas y volcanes, o las voces milenarias de pueblos indígenas lo que hace a una banda como Metakiase forjar un sonido potente, inyectado de speed y un groove marihuano y agresivo. El dúo, formado por Tomás Trucco (batería) y Vipe Schindler (guitarra y voz), se lanza con su álbum debut llamado “La Ruta de La Araucanía”, homenajeando a su región y a la promesa de un viaje al borde del camino de un tormentoso rocanrol.

El disco abre con un arpeggio que dispone el oído con cósmica calma, hasta que los tambores rituales golpean la tierra y crecen hasta fundirse en el riff furioso de la guitarra, que fusiona un heavy blues con crudeza thrash metal. Esta combinación se concreta en “Life”, donde entra la voz de tono profundo a la antigua, sobre un ametrallador ritmo hipnótico. “Temor” cambia el idioma al español, para una canción con vaivén de canto que invoca espíritus guerreros, ambientes de calma y locura. Es sorprendente el logro de pasajes tan diversos, sin más recursos que el martillo hecho de batería y guitarra. “Cañón” sigue un poco con la misma línea, más enérgica y menos oscura, de momentos psicotrópicos con afilados subidones.

“Trash” es un corte de menos de 2 minutos que escupe metal punk, breve pero de lo más agressor del disco. “Ride On” rompe con un pesado boogie, un buen single y donde la banda evidencia más su lado blusero, aunque sin compromisos ya que la vena del thrash y la velocidad sangra en todo el álbum. “Past And Future” y “Shadows” traen esos climas más oscuros, con marchas vertiginosas y caídas libres, y Schindler alcanzando una voz cruda que a veces recuerda los inicios del speed metal. “Die” tiene un aura noventera ala Alice In Chains, más cálida y psicodélica como para darse un respiro y/o bongazo según el oyente…

“Freedom” surge desde el sur del cielo, pregonando letras ocultas y la auto búsqueda, logrando transportar a la oscuridad de un bosque lluvioso de la Araucanía. “Ride The Moment” tiene la vibra de un mambo metal, conteniendo un animal rabioso que se libera, surfeando el momento en riff demoledor y abrupto final. “Destino” suena a una amanecida, de guitarra voladora con fases melódicas distintas, denotando el dinamismo de la banda que no se atrapa. Y en esa onda experimental está “Baby”, que tira unas cuantas puteadas y risas en el tema más derechamente blues del álbum. “Amor” clava con un tono fatal y disonante para la fuente de dolor universal, lamentoso en un inicio pero agarrando ira con una catarsis muy thrashera, precisa y expresiva. Y cerrando el viaje, “Nico” incluye las risas de un niño que acarician el cerebro después de pedazo de viaje. Metakiase suena a la antigua, pero con un motor nuevo alimentado de speed y metal sin pretensiones. Este debut es un recomendado para todo festejo que vea salir el sol.

The green south of Chile houses many hazy, mystic rock bands. Maybe it’s the resonance of mountains and volcanoes or the ancient voices of indigenous people what gives Metakiase the strength to forge a powerful, speed-injected, both aggressive and stoned sound. The duo -Tomás Trucco on drums and Vipe Schindler in vocals and guitars- are releasing their debut album “La Ruta de la Araucanía” (The Route of the Araucanía), a homage to the land and the promise of a trip through the edge of a stormy rock and roll road.

The album opens with an arpeggio that prepares the ear in cosmic calm to welcome the ritual drums hitting the ground, growing until they merge to the furious heavyblues-meets-thrashmetal guitar riff. The combination is fully accomplished in “Life”, hosted by a deep old-school voice over a hypnotic, gunning rhythm. “Temor” switches to spanish to rock chants that evoke warrior spirits, peaceful ambients and madness, where you can truly appreciate Metakiase’s diversity of sonic landscapes, a remarkable work made surprisingly with only 2 instruments. “Cañón” follows this same line, growing more energetic and less dark, full of psychedelic moments cut by sharpened lifters.

“Trash” it’s a 2-minute, metalpunk-spitting cut, one of the most aggressive and brief songs in the record. “Ride on” breaks in with a heavy boogie, a nice single where the band shows its true bluesy side, while preserving its thrash veins flow all through the album. “Past and Future” and “Shadows” bring in darker weather that hovers in vertiginous pace through freefalls, while Schindler reaches raw voices that remind of the beginnings of speed metal. “Die” has a kind of Alice in Chains-90’s aura, but warmer and more psychedelic to let you catch a breath -or hit the bong, according to the listener.

“Freedom” rises from the south of heaven, preaching occult prayers of self exploration that take you to the damp darkness of the rainforest of the Araucanía. “Ride the moment” has a mambo-metal vibe, feels like holding up a raging animal that finally breaks free, surfing the moment on a demolishing riff that crashes on a dead end. “Destino” sounds like dawn, flying guitars and melodic phrases that restate the band’s versatility, that won’t get caught in any style. In that same experimental wave there’s “Baby”, throwing off some cursing and joking in clearly the Bluest song in the track list.

“Amor” stings with a fatal dissonant tone from the fountain of universal pain, mournful in the beginning, but soon catching anger to make a really thrashy, expressive and precise catharsis. And as a closing, “Nico” casts the laugh of a boy petting your brain after this hell of a trip.

Metakiase has and old-school sound, powered and fed by a new engine away from pretensions. This debut material it’s highly recomended for any celebration that meets the sunrise.
