La naturaleza como fuerza creadora indómita, parece ser la fotografía sonora que este lanzamiento se propone retratar y que, de la mano de Valentina Maza, lo logra en sus diez minutos de extensión. La base de este material radica en ser una improvisación libre creada en el contexto de la naturaleza que otorga un lugar tan especial como el Arboretum valdiviano. Por supuesto que hay retoques y elementos sonoros externos agregados después, que lo único que hacen es adornar y embellecer “Presentir”, el nuevo EP de Valentina Maza.

El EP está compuesto por tres canciones, donde cada una contiene una dedicación especial como título: “A la humedad”, “Al azul” y “Pies a tierra”

Un timbre metálico rompe el silencio de espera emulando un pulso que choca en las paredes imaginarias del auditor y que provoca un eco que acompaña fielmente hasta que “A la humedad” llega a su fin. Se escuchan tenues bases rítmicas creadas mediante sintes y controlador midi, que concertan con las melodías de viola. Se escuchan al menos tres capas melódicas elaboradas por la viola que se encuentran en intervalos como si fueran puntos de un bordado. En este y en los otros tracks, Valentina Maza demuestra ser una tejedora de melodías con hermosas cadencias que descansan en su vientre creativo. Quizás en ella radica el poder no de componer, si no de bordar con dulzura cada fibra melodiosa que asoma en su alma.

Tras las líneas melódicas de la viola se escucha una capa de enjambres rítmicos, así comienza “Al azul”. Da la impresión de ser una pequeña pero emotiva canción de una taberna medieval aguantando la lluvia de abril. No llega a ser un lamento, tampoco un carnaval. Es la calma justa antes de partir, esa que previene el dolor y que anticipa cualquier golpe.

“Pies a Tierra” es un sueño pentatónico que se sumerge en lo etéreo de aquel delicado mundo onírico creado por Valentina Maza. Las ascensiones de la viola provocan un momento de serenidad y meditación, perfecto para escuchar en un espacio íntimo o con personas que valoren el silencio contemplativo de la obra. La amabilidad de una quinta descendente es la armonía precisa y única base para que se genere una ramificación de elementos sonoros que se suceden y acompañan. El sonido de algún tipo de vibráfono suma su apacible timbre a una composición que ya era perfecta, pues ahora pasa a otro nivel. Valentina Maza logra en esta obra que la persona oyente conecte al punto de querer escuchar una y otra vez, y pedir que ojalá fuera eterna, pero eso sería antinatural, totalmente opuesto al contexto del disco, pero sí muy tentador de pedir.

«Presentir» es una obra en la cual hay que dejar ese tentador impulso de querer analizarla pragmáticamente. Quizás haciendo eso se perdería la magia del bordado que crea Valentina Maza. Presentir es un recipiente de sensaciones inspiradas por la naturaleza y que cuya compositora fue capaz de convertir en sonido. Un trabajo admirable que confirma a Valentina Maza como una compositora e interprete capaz de ir y volver de todos los universos que ella crea.

Nature is an indomitable creative force, that is the sound photography that Valentina Maza manages to portray in the 10 minutes of her new EP, Presentir.
The basics of this material lies in being a free improvisation created in the context of nature that grants such a special place as the Valdivian Arboretum.

The EP by Valentina Maza is made up of three songs, each one containing a special dedication as title: «A la humedad», «Al azul» and «Pies a tierra»

A metallic sound colour breaks the waiting silence by emulating a pulse that collides with the auditor’s imaginary walls and causes an echo that faithfully accompanies until “A la Humedad” comes to an end. There are soft rhythmic bases created by synths and a midi controller, which harmonize with the viola melodies. At least three melodic layers made by the viola are heard that are found in intervals as if they were points of an embroidery. In this and the other tracks, Valentina Maza proves to be a weaver of melodies with beautiful cadences that rest in her creative belly. Perhaps in her, lies the power not to compose, but to embroider with sweetness every melodious fiber that appears in her soul.

Behind the melodic lines of the viola a layer of rhythmic swarms is heard, thats the way “Al azul” begins. It gives the impression of being a small but emotional song from a medieval tavern enduring the April rain. It is not a lament, nor is it a carnival. It is the right calm before leaving, the one that prevents pain and anticipates any blow.
«Pies a Tierra» is a pentatonic dream that plunges into the ethereal of that delicate dream world created by Valentina Maza. The ascents of the viola induce a moment of serenity and meditation, perfect for listening in an intimate space or with people who value the contemplative silence of the work. The kindness of a descending fifth is the precise harmony and the only basis for generating a branch of sound elements that follow and accompany each other. The sound of some kind of vibraphone adds its gentle timbre to a composition that was already perfect, now it goes to another level. Valentina Maza achieves in this work that the listener connects to the point of wanting to listen again and again, and ask that wish it were eternal, but that would be unnatural, totally opposite to the context of the album, but very tempting to ask.

“Presentir” is a work in which you have to give up that tempting impulse of wanting to analyze it pragmatically. Perhaps doing that, would lose the magic of the embroidery that Valentina Maza creates. “Presentir” is a container of sensations inspired by nature and that whose composer was able to turn into sound. An admirable work that confirms Valentina Maza as a composer and player capable of going to and from all the universes that she creates.
