Los QueenMilk  han declarado por ahí que «somos sólo una nueva banda de rock, nada más». Estos cinco chicos provienen de la misma calle del barrio santiaguino de Maipú, pero, ¡sorpresa! no se habían dado cuenta de eso hasta hace dos años. ¿Coincidencias de la vida? Con un sonido enraizado profundamente en el rock pesado de corte clásico y con matices de blues y grunge, QueenMilk nos entrega un set de nueve zarpazos en su nuevo LP ‘El Descanso’ (y el dato freak dicta que ese es el nombre de la calle de donde provienen).

Toma por ejemplo la obertura del disco con «Posion Snake». Riffs demoledores saturados con pesadas líneas de bajo y ritmos monstruosos, sus primeras palabras nos dictan «Feels like goin’ crazy / Always wanting more / Craving for some pleasure / Never finding love». Honesto y directo, bien. Y luego tendrás tu generosa dosis de caóticos solos de guitarras wah-wah y grooves inflamables. Hablando de la importancia del groove, la hipnótica «Nowhere» entrega una de las mejores dinámicas de ritmo en este LP, fundiéndose con el fuzz y la distorsión de las armonías blues en la guitarra mientras Samu (vocalista) nos dice que «There’s no point at all / There’s no time / (I think your time for now it’s over)». Y este quinteto se lo toma en serio. Esta no es «otra banda chilena de rock» que se dedica sólo a pesados y atractivos riffs; QueenMilk logra prometer mucho más.

Pero, ¿cuál es ese «más»? Creo que ya era hora de que un single como «These Times» viera la luz del día (¡revisen el vídeo!). Es la estampa de este disco… pegadiza, frenética, dura y pesada, la canción se siente como una reunión entre Morphine, Guns N’ Roses y Royal Blood, con un matiz de blues que añade más energía a este crisol. Dejando un poco de lado la música, la canción te hace preguntar «is the world on fire?» cuando (estamos) «In the age of the falling / The toxics are just a phase / They became in plastic scars / Just dropping all in disgrace». Luego toma las explosivas «Knock Down The Fish» y «Brazil», en donde la banda incluye coros de fondo («And we will fight till the end to knock down the fish») hechos de acero, energía y puro rock & roll desatado. Así que, en fin, llámenlos «otra banda de rock» o no, pero QueenMilk entrega una inquieta experiencia traída desde los lares más salvajes del rock & roll. Súbele al volumen y escucha.

Chilean rock & rollers QueenMilk have claimed that «we’re just a new rock band, nothing else!». These five guys hail from the same street in the Maipú barrio of Santiago, but, the thing is, the dudes didn’t realize that until two years ago! With a sound deeply rooted in vintage, classic hard rock with shapes of blues and grunge, QueenMilk delivers a set of nine smashing songs in their new LP ‘El Descanso’ (fun fact, that’s the name of the street where they come from). 

Take for example the straightfoward opener «Poison Snake». With a killer riff saturated by hard bass lines and monstrous rhythms, the first lyrics shout «Feels like goin’ crazy / Always wanting more / Craving for some pleasure / Never finding love». Honesty at its best. And then you’ll have your generous dose of chaotic wah-wah guitar solos and scorched-out grooves. Talking about grooves, the mesmerizing «Nowhere» pulls one of the best rhythmic dynamics of this LP, merging with fuzzy and distorted blues-guitar harmonics while Samu (vocalist) tells us «There’s no point at all / There’s no time / (I think your time for now it’s over)». Now this is the point where these guys take themselves seriously. This is «not just another rock band from Chile» delivering hard and catchy riffs; QueenMilk are promising much more.

But, what «more»? I think it was about time that a single like «These Times» saw the light of day (check out its sick video). The staple of this LP… catchy, frenetic, hard and heavy, the track feels like a meet-up between Morphine, Guns N’ Roses and Royal Blood, with a blues feeling that only adds more energy to this melting pot. Music aside, this track makes us ask ourselves «is the world on fire?» when we are «In the age of the falling / The toxics are just a phase / They became in plastic scars / Just dropping all in disgrace». Then you can take the explosive (and best) tracks «Knock Down the Fish» and «Brazil», in which the band includes background choruses («And we will fight till the end to knock down the fish») made of steel, power and pure, unleashed rock & roll. So, anyway, call them another Chilean rock band or not, but QueenMilk are surely a restless experience brought to you by the wilder side of rock & roll. Turn up the volume and listen!
