Miguel Iturrate llevaba tiempo experimentando con su propio estudio de grabación en casa. Rodeado de equipos, instrumentos y softwares en soledad, el espíritu creativo cobró vida con algunos demos y “rarezas” bajo el alias de su one man band Sieterayos. Pero los resultados no fueron los más “presentables”. Miguel sentía que podía ir algo más allá con su música, encontrar el sonido perfecto para lanzar al público.

En Más Allá, su más reciente lanzamiento, Iturrate encuentra un espacio musical ambicioso y pulido, que cruza las fronteras entre el rock alternativo, progresivo y la psicodelia para darle forma a trances de pop alucinógeno. Son nueve canciones grabadas alrededor del año 2016, en las que confluyen ideas tanto anteriores como “nuevas” y que, en conjunto, brillan entre mares de sintetizadores y relámpagos de guitarra.

Una vocación pop y de oreja, pero situada en la sofisticación. Las canciones de Sieterayos dan la sensación de que el indie de escuela noventera – retomado a principios de la década pasada – puede aún transmutarse en estos tiempos.

La energía de “Reiniciarás” recuerda al power pop luminoso de teclados y guitarras pegajosas que en los noventa resurgió de la mano de un solitario Cerati o la movida de británicos como Teenage Fanclub y Manic Street Preachers. Y esa misma fuerza se retoma, en una vertiente más psicodélica y explosiva, con “En Profundidad” y sus innumerables capas de acidez sonora.

“Hasta el Fin” y «Fuente de Poder» revelan el rostro onírico de Sieterayos, uno en el que el dream pop al estilo de actos contemporáneos como Beach House o los olvidados chilenos de Velódromo toma dimensiones épicas. Es una fluctuación perfecta entre escenas explosivas y otras más contemplativas, en las que la voz de Iturrate resuena en medio de gruesos matices musicales. La fórmula llega a su clímax en los últimos 10 minutos del álbum («Bajo Cero» y «Frecuencia Interior») y cierra de manera redonda la nueva aventura de Sieterayos.

Si bien el fenómeno del “pop de dormitorio” – etiqueta mañosa que por allá a principios de la década pasada se tomó varias libertades para categorizar la música – optaba por perseguir la melancolía y no tanto el entusiasmo, Más Allá de Sieterayos demuestra que no todo trabajo solitario (en casa) tiene que sonar afligido. Las nueve canciones de este disco, llenas de lustre y untuosidad musical, son un shot de energía de alto octanaje.

Miguel Iturrate had been experimenting with his own recording studio at home for some time. Surrounded by equipment, instruments and software in solitude, his creative spirit came to life with some demos and «rarities» under the alias of his one man band Sieterayos. But the results were not the most «presentable». Miguel felt that he could go something further with his music, find the perfect sound to launch to the public.

In Más Allá, his most recent release, Iturrate finds an ambitious and polished musical space that crosses the boundaries between alternative, progressive and psychedelic rock to shape hallucinogenic pop trances. These are nine songs recorded around the year 2016, in which both old and “new” ideas converge and that, together, shine between seas of synthesizers and guitar lightning.

A pop and ear vocation, but situated in sophistication. Sieterayos songs give the feeling that 90s school indie – taken up at the beginning of the last decade – can still be transmuted in these times.

The energy of “Reiniciarás” is reminiscent of the luminous power pop of sticky keyboards and guitars that resurfaced in the nineties with a soloist Cerati or the wave of acts like Teenage Fanclub and Manic Street Preachers. And that same force is retaken, in a more psychedelic and explosive aspect, with “En Profundidad” and its innumerable layers of sonic acidity.

«Hasta el Fin» and «Fuente de Poder» reveal the dreamlike face of Sieterayos, one in which dream pop in the style of contemporary acts such as Beach House or the forgotten Chileans of Velodrome takes on epic dimensions. It is a perfect fluctuation between explosive scenes and other more contemplative ones, in which Iturrate’s voice resonates amid thick musical nuances. The formula reaches its climax in the last 10 minutes of the album («Bajo Cero» and «Frecuencia Interior») and closes in a round way the new adventure of Sieterayos.

Although the phenomenon of «bedroom pop» – a crafty label that back in the early last decade took several liberties to categorize music – chose to pursue melancholy and not so much enthusiasm, Más Allá de Sieterayos shows that not everything lonely work (at home) has to sound heartbroken. The nine songs on this album, full of musical luster and oiliness, are a shot of high-octane energy.
